US stocks end the day lower, but the week higher

US stocks ended the day lower but held onto weekly gains weighed by a decline in oil prices ahead of a key meeting of oil producers in Doha.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 29 points, or 0.16% down at 17,896. The S&P 500 index closed 2 points, or 0.1%, lower at 2,080. The Nasdaq Composite index dropped 7 points, or 0.16% at 4,938.

On the week, the DJIA rose 1.8% while the S&P 500 registered a 1.6% weekly gain, and the Nasdaq advanced 1.8%.
