Coronavirus update: Germany’s new infections rise for the third straight day

According to the German disease and epidemic control center, Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 133,830, with a total of 3,868 deaths reported on Friday.

Cases increased by 3,380 in Germany, rising the highest in six days and for the third consecutive day. The death toll rose by 299, lower than Thursday’s 315 jump.

The rising trend in the new confirmed cases may not bode well for Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government, as they seek to ease the lockdown measures.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Merkel gave a scientific explanation on Germany’s lockdown exit strategy. She said a flattening of the infection rate is needed to be circumspect and an exit out of the lockdown required caution.
