US sanctions one bank and 20 more individuals linked to Crimea annexation
FXStreet (Łódź) - US President Barack Obama announced that 20 more people involved in Russia's annexation of Crimea would come under US sanctions, which include travel bans and asset freezes.
Furthermore, Bank Rossii, the fifth largest in Russia would be frozen out of the dollar. Jamie Coleman from FXBeat is skeptical about the effectiveness of such a measure: “Sounds good, but if other Russian banks are allowed to operate normally the sanctions will be easily evaded.”
Meanwhile, in response to new US sanctions Russia said that nine US officials and lawmakers, including Benjamin Rhodes, John McCain, Harry Reid and John Boehner, won't be able to enter Russia.
"There must be no doubt: we will respond adequately to every hostile thrust," Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
