US personal spending jumps 1%, income rises 0.4% in April

Personal spending rose 1.0% in April from a month earlier, above the 0.7% increase expected and marking the strongest growth since August 2009.     

The jump in spending came along with mild income increase. Personal income rose 0.4% in April,  matching expectations.   

The PCE price index, the Fed's preferred inflation measure, rose 0.3% in April  and 1.1% from a year earlier. The PCE core index, which exclude the volatile categories of food and energy, rose 0.2% MoM and 1.6% YoY.
