US stocks higher as investors await US nonfarm payrolls

FXStreet (Córdoba) - Wall Street indexes ended mostly higher on Wednesday but off session highs amid mixed economic data.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 10.22 points, or 0.06%, lower at 17,540.47. The S&P 500 climbed 6.52 points, or 0.31%, to end at 2,099.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 34.40 points, or 0.7%, to close at 5,139.94.

All three indexes trimmed early gains and closed away from highs, with the DJIA in negative ground, as investors gear up for Friday’s nonfarm payrolls report.

In the data front, Automatic Data Processing (ADP) reported US private sector added 185K jobs in July below expectations of 215K. Weak data comes two days before the nonfarm payrolls report and after the Fed said last week “some further improvement” is needed in the labor market before raising rates.

However, July ISM non-manufacturing index came in the strong side at 60.3 versus 56.2 expected.
