German CPI rises 0.7% year-on-year in May
FXStreet (Mumbai) - The data released by Destatis on Tuesday showed the inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Germany was 0.7% higher in May 2015 compared with May 2014.
A downward effect on the overall inflation rate in May 2015 was exerted especially by the price development of mineral oil products (–8.8%, of which heating oil: –16.7%; motor fuels: –6.3%). The year-on-year price decrease, however, gradually slowed since the beginning of 2015. The prices of energy (total) were down 5.0% on a year earlier. Excluding energy prices, the inflation rate in May 2015 would have been markedly higher (+1.3%).
Month-on-month, consumer prices rose slightly by 0.1% in May 2015. Prices were up both for heating oil (+3.7%) and motor fuels (+2.3%, including supergrade petrol, diesel fuel: +2.4% each).
