Australia ANZ job ads: First month of contraction since mid last year

FXStreet (Bali) - Australia ANZ Job Advertisements fell from previous 0.9% to -1.4% in March, the first month of contraction in the last 9 months.

ANZ official report - summary

"Job advertisements fell 1.4% in March for the first time after nine months of rises (in seasonally adjusted terms). In trend terms, job ads have now increased for 17 consecutive months albeit at a slower pace in the recent months. They are up 9.3% over the year (trend terms)."

"The fall in March was driven by both internet and newspaper job ads. Internet job ads fell 1.3% m/m, to be up 7.5% y/y. This is the first monthly fall seen in internet job ads since May 2014. Newspaper job ads fell 3.6%, to be down 21.8% y/y."

"Newspaper ads were particularly weak in NT and SA, and strong in TAS. In trend terms, newspaper jobs are rising in NT and QLD, with a weakening in ACT in the past three months of note."

Australian retail sales beats expectations in February

Australia's retail sales s.a. (MoM) came above forecasts of 0.4%, with February's actual at 0.7%, and last month's data revised up from 0.4% to 0.5%.
