UK retail sales rose 5.7% year-on-year in February
FXStreet (Mumbai) - The data released by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) released today showed retail sale sin February rose 5.7% year-on-year, from 5.4% in January. The actual data beat the expectation of a 4.7% rise.
Month-on-month, the retail sales rose 0.7%, beating the estimate of a 0.4% rise. Year-on-year February was the 23rd consecutive month of year-on-year growth and the longest period of sustained growth since May 2008 when there were 31 periods of growth. Meanwhile, retail sales ex-fuel also beat the expectations to rise 5.1% year-on-year and 0.7% month-on-month.
