Foreigners sold US Treasuries for third straight month in January
FXStreet (Mumbai) - The data from the US Treasury showed on Monday that the foreign investors sold Treasuries for a third straight month in January, taking the outflows to a three year highs.
US Treasuries totaled USD 55.08 billion in January, compared with outflows of USD 15.6 billion in December. The treasury report also showed foreign central bankers sold treasuries worth USD 12.3 billion in January. However, the report contradicts the movement in the yields. The 10-year yields dropped in January dropped to 1.68% from 2.174%.
China's holdings of US Treasuries declined for a fifth straight month to USD 1.239 trillion in January, from USD 1.244 trillion in December. Japan's holdings of Treasuries rose in January to USD 1.238 trillion, from USD 1.230 trillion in December.
